A Message from AIEM Director

Education is in the Process of major change. Innovations in Technology and Teaching Methodology are being given an opportunity to work for the benefit of the Students.

External Diploma Programs, for those who need time flexible education, are finding increased popularity and, more important, acceptance in most walks of life.

The primary focus of AIEM is to benefit the Student and to help that Student reach his/her educational objective in the shortest time frame allowable and at the best lowest cost.

The objective is to produce competent, professional people who are academically prepared, eager and able to face the challenges offered by today's Society.

We believe that by keeping the student's needs foremost in mind, both the student and the Institution will benefit to the utmost.

As a Student, and as an alumnus of AIEM, you can continue to pride in the objectives, philosophies and accomplishments of your Institution.

Sd/- Er.K.Rajedran

Director / Consulting Engineer / Chief Editor

What is Directed Independent Study?

First, it is STUDY. The Institution must maintain the highest standard of excellence. The whole purpose of our existence as Institution is to allow the Student to earn a Diploma on a much more flexible basis than traditional colleges and Universities.

Second, it is INDEPENDENT Study, done on your own, independently and not in a classroom , lecture or study hall situation. The responsibility for your education is shared between you and Institution. Credits are earned by demonstrating what you know, not how long you can warm a chair. You start when you are ready, continue at your own speed and finish at your convenience, neither being pushed nor held back by other students or by semester/quarter time frames. Main texts for course work are assigned and you will utilize the resources of your own library and that of local public or nearby school libraries. If you are mature and motivated, you will have no trouble accomplishing your educational goals quickly. But the time is up to you; fast or slow, you set the pace-after all, it's your education.

Third, it is DIRECTED Study. You are not arbitrarily assigned a course of study and then left by yourself to figure out what to do with it. You receive as much direction, guidance and assistance as you decide you need. If you do not live near enough to the Institution to meet for consultation with one of our Core Faculty Members, then we will appoint a member of our Core Faculty to serve that function for you by correspondence.

How does it work?

Every course to be completed by Directed Independent Study will have a syllabus (course outline), a copy of which will be given to you. The syllabus will identify each and every concept or idea considered to be significant importance to that particular course. This is important to you the student, because right there in the syllabus we will have listed for you everything that you will be expected to learn from the course.

Correspondence Study

AIEM offers a limited number of courses under correspondence study wherein complete study materials shall be supplied to the candidates. The examinations will be conducted based on the study materials supplied to the students.

Requirements for completion of the diploma

While specific requirements regarding curricula, length of time , and number of units required may vary from individual to individual and from program to program, the general requirements fro completion of the Diploma are: SSLC, HSC, Any Degree.

Length of the Diploma Program

The time involved in accomplishing the student's DIPLOMA goal will vary from individual to individual. The time frame will depend on the transfer credits of the student brings into the program, Allowable credits for life experience, the number of courses assigned to the student after an evaluation of their application materials, and the effort the students desires to put in to the program. With few exceptions , it is possible for a DIPLOMA program to be accomplished with in one academic year. Some program will take longer.

Philosophy

It is the mission of AIEM to provide quality education and professional training adopted to the needs of mature adults with instruction provided by learning specialists, in DIPLOMA and POST DIPLOMA in Engineering education.

Our educational program are based on the belief of scholars that adult learners prefer problem-centered learning formats to content centered ones, and are motivated to learn when theoretical aspects of a course are directly related to the needs of the students and society.

We believe that the teaching /learning interaction is a mutual responsibility of the student and educators and the responsibility for the outcomes as to be shared by all the individual involved in the learning experience. The AIEM believes it has the responsibility to provide opportunity for and to stimulate academic pursuits aimed at intellectual growth and stimulate and enhancement in social and aesthetic growth areas.

The AIEM fills a need for innovative programs that reduce the barriers while maintaining standard of quality . Towards this end we have created programs that meet the needs of dynamic society without limiting the educational delivery system. Our challenge is to assist the students in the developing a program around interests evolving from life's experiences and the synthesis of thinking and learning.

Our faculty will provide guided inquiry in to areas of knowledge and challenge of attitudes, beliefs and value systems. With the proper organizational guidelines and administrative supports students will acquire and demonstrate breadth and depth of knowledge, critical thinking and clear self - expression.

We believe that we can help the students build the knowledge and skills required in a society that demands more responsible citizens. That includes the ability to develop concern for moral perception. Self -actualization, and grounding in the hypotheses and principles of the academic discipline.

The Aims and Purposes

AIEM was developed as a scholarly alternative to the traditional of the higher education for those persons who, in the past have been unable to experience college -level learning for various reasons. From its founding , in 1987 , the Institution has been committed to a credo that each individual is a unique and diverse person, and the society will be benefit to the extent that each individuals is able to add to the societal pool of talent and competence given the opportunity to develop personal skills and knowledge.

Therefore, the objectives of the AIEM are to

Bring mid career professionals to a higher level of competences

Acquaint students with the broad ramifications of theory and application techniques in their chosen field of study;

Introduce students to the most recent and authoritative materials in their area of interest

Elicit from each student scholarly reports which demonstrates understanding and application of the principles being taught.

Develop in students such levels of performance and competence as are required by current and future trends in their area of interest and employment.

The distinctive mission of AIEM is to offer course work and accompanying assistance of such nature that the students may qualify for DIPLOMA/POST DIPLOMA program. The process involved in correspondence /independent study is viewed as encouraging the student toward self discipline, sel-appraisal, self-revelation, and self-sufficiency.
